Before I was going to dive into another movie here, have the powers at be here ever think of having a movie chat room where the movie would be playing and everyone chatting about it? It could be fun...

A cool idea. Have a movie always on - random or on a schedule - a low bit rate broadcast with an accompanying chat. You know you could arrange something with what's already available. Maybe meet in ICQ for chat and have everybody click the streaming link to a movie at the same time.

I think that the internet archive is now profitably engaged in far more important tasks.Remember the movie section is only one part of its activities.

"profitably" suggests the Archive's main concern is monetary. We know the Archive staff has much to do, but *just maybe* a suggestion is worth a few seconds of their time to ponder. If a theatre/chat attracts people to the Archive who might not otherwise come, or exposes some of us to films we might not otherwise download, or provokes discussions and thought, does that not help the Archive's mission?

Obviously, from the silence on their end, they don't think it's a good idea either lol (sniff)

It's not that it isn't a good idea, but we don't have the time or people to do it. We're a very small, non-profit organization. Our priorities are just on getting this stuff to work.

We have nuked our original post here as it referred to a website that no longer exists and is now irrelevant to this discussion.

Heck, my captioning site's been running mostly on Prelinger material for over a year now. No registration needed. Unfortunately it's probably not safe for work.
